The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Chris Siple, President. The minutes of the March 7 meeting were approved
OLD BUSINESS:
The 7th Street W&OD access is essentially finished, except for final landscape plantings.
The Dominion parcel on Pershing/Buchanan: Dominion has planted Schip laurel trees on the perimeter facing the street. The fenced area is cleared by Dominion four times a year. There was a discussion about the invasive plants in the adjacent County land.
NEW BUSINESS:
There will be officer elections at the May 2 Meeting.
Presentation Orr Partners
The subject of this presentation was the development currently underway at the NW Corner of George Mason Drive and Columbia Pike.
The development will consist of 366 apartment units, 77,000 feet retail. 51,000 feet is Harris Teeter which is scheduled to open this fall. There will be studio apartments, one bedrooms, one bedrooms with den, and two bedrooms; leasing starts in August. The building is built around a Plaza which is a like a public park. The plaza is set down from the grade on George Mason. Quiet, because of its siting below grade. The plaza is approximately 150 by 150 square. There will be an interactive “cube/sphere” sculpture. Other retailers than Harris-Teeter are not determined but might be a exercise facility or a restaurant on the plaza.. Two floors are reserved for a hotel which will be in place as a transition rental until the building is nearly all rented.
There was a request from the editor of the Barcroft News for an open house. That will be investigated. If it were to occur, it would likely be in the September-October time frame. The oak that came down due to construction is being saved In the form of a 20 foot community table.
There will be 589 parking spots. There’s no current plan to charge for customer parking. Bike racks are planned.
