New Townhouses to Replace 920 S. Buchannan
Panic not! It's "by right" and already zoned.
A builder has announced his intention to put a raft of new townhouses on
the lot currently occupied by an older farmhouse-style home at 920 S.
Buchanan. This is the second house from the corner of Buchannan and 9th
Street South.
The lot has been owned by the owners of Buchanan Gardens apartments,
which it is adjacent to. We have just received notice from a builder that
the house will be demolished and townhouses built.
Although the BSCL is concerned by the loss of yet another of Barcroft's
older homes, this house sits on land zoned for apartments, and its days
were numbered from the time fifty years ago when the Buchanan Gardens
buildings were constructed. We think the owner may not even have to
apply to the County for anything but a regular building permit. David
Michaelson, our Neighborhood Conserveration Rep and our VP this year, is
checking on the development with the County Zoning Office. The subject
will be covered in our September meeting, if not in the September
newslettter.
