How we run the Barcroft Web site
- Our domain name is bscl.org, standing for Barcroft School and Civic
League, a non-profit organization.
- We run this page on a shared server at a server farm in Pittsburgh, PA, belonging to pair Networks (with a lower case P). The cost is $10 per month, performance is great and Pair has been very very reliable, based on data from our site monitor that checks every three minutes. They have been profitable since 1995, and host more than 200,000 Web sites.
- For the first five years our server ran right here in Barcroft on a dedicated Compaq 386SX that we rescued from a junk pile in 1995. It ran on Windows for Workgroups 3.11, using a dial-up router and sharing a plain old telephone service (POTS) line with two other sites. We still keep our pages lean for fast loading even if you don't have broadband.
- We use very simple html structure and construct our pages with a plain html text editor. It takes minimal training to maintain our pages.
- We have been up and running since February, 1995.
- Our Webmaster and designer is Randy Swart.
- Here are the Naming Conventions for our Web files.
