Barcroft Loves its Parade!

July 4, 2012 - July weather and our 2th parade!

This year we had just recovered from bad storm damage
and Barcroft homes were without power for several days.

Parade Director for Life Andrew Hunter arrived early to set up.
He had been working non-stop for two days on parade preparations.
This is his 15th year as Parade Director!

Our hot water heater died during the storm. Judith Richter mopped up.

The Community House was decorated and ready.

The band warms up in the cool Community House.

YouTube video: ignore the suggested non-parade videos
and go on down the page after it plays.

The cooks fired up the grill early, as always led by Scott
Peterson, with others pitching in and taking turns in the heat.

President Pat in her wonderful hat.

Our police escorts.

We have two videos of the complete parade:
This one by Randy Swart as the parade departed the Community House

and this one by Angelo Ioffreda as it returned on 8th Street.

The Marine Color Guard, this year backed up by a Boy Scout color guard.

Uncle Sam was brought to life this year by Joe Walsh,
"the Irish Painter." His red Corvette was driven by a Russian
immigrant. Barcrofter Guillermo Garcia called it "the American Dream."

Joe was featured with a magnificent photo on the front page of the print edition of the Sun Gazette!

The masses marched for the four block route.

The Woman's Club of Arlington had a float.

Carol Harvey with a large splinter from the power pole on 6th St.

And there was much thanks to Dominion Virginia Power.

The Sun Gazette again this year sent ace photographer Deb Kolt.

Her photos are on their Web site!.

And WJLA sent Kimberly Suiters (daughter of Barcrofter
Diane Dorius) and cameraman.

Here's their coverage.

Back at the Community House, Grace Baptist Church
gave out free popsicles. They rent the Community House
every week for their Sunday School, and the Woman's Club
Clubhouse for their church services.
