More Barcroft Parade

July 4, 2010

After the parade the incomparable Barcroft Marching Band entertained.

Our firetruck came back after missing the parade for a fire call.

Arlington's finest are tightly scheduled on the 4th and had to leave for another parade.
Here is Cpl. Whelan warning after the parade that the street was being reopened.

After the parade, the picnic! Hot dogs, hamburgers
lots of salads, sides and more. The veggie burgers
were a new and welcome addition this year.

Including plenty of mouth-watering deserts. Many brought home-made cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies...

And lots of space to spread out for the feast.

We had all three variations of the Barcroft tee shirt present.

We had a melodic Star Spangled Banner in perfect four part harmony. All the singers are Barcrofters: Daniel Edwards, Adam Hunter, Sarah Hunter and Anna Cackley. The first three are current or former members of the Wakefield Madrigal Singers.

The kids gathered in the Community House to see Magic Mountain Puppets
and The Banjo Man.

And John Cackley explains how he broke his arm.

Across the street, Grace Baptist Church won converts with their free ice cream. They have services on Sundays at the Woman's Club next door, but also rent the Community House for their Sunday School.

Our esteemed President, Bryant Monroe, handed out the prizes.

And made this pitch for donations to the Community House Restoration Fund.

Please see this page for more info on how to donate.

County Board member Mary Hynes visited and chatted with the neighbors.

And with Bryant too.

Annie Harold wore her best hat.

And others had great hats too.

The invasive plant people plot a kudzu fight in Four Mile Run.

Jenny DeMaio will be bringing her child next year.

Our Chief Fundraiser, Chris Ditta, with more than $1800 in donations to the Community House Fund.

Cleanup is quick, with many hands helping. We compact our trash.

In just a few minutes more the Community House has returned to normal,
and a bride-to-be arrives to plan her October wedding.

And elsewhere in Barcroft, people enjoy the afternoon delight of a swim party.

With lots of laughs and giggles.

And finally, the compacted trash goes out on Thursday.
