Barcroft Loves its Parade!

July 4, 2010 - July weather and our 22nd parade!

It was a fine day for a parade.

Harold Howard cleaned his sidewalk along the parade route.

Parade Director for Life Andrew Hunter.

Pat brought home-made goodies and her signature crazy hat.

The cooks fired up the grill early, led by Scott Peterson, with Ken Edwards pitching in.

Andrew always consults with our police escorts.

We assembled for a 10 am kickoff. The Stafford Street/7th Road Baby Boom was there in force--six births in six weeks in a block and a half, and some advice for other parents.

The marching band under the direction of Melissa Bishop.

And our brownie troop was on hand too.

The Marine Color Guard from Joint Base Fort Myer Henderson Hall led off. In addition to looking sharp, they have a close relationship with Barcroft Elementary School. They did not complain about the heat.

Our spectacular Uncle Sam, Bruce Nunally, came again to be our parade marshal, bringing his camera this time. Bruce has become a regular feature on the Sun Gazette cover after July 4th. With his natural white beard and tall stature, he looks just like Uncle Sam!.

The Sun Gazette sent ace photographer Deb Kolt.

You can see the entire parade go by on YouTube.

It takes less than five minutes! Pogo sticks at 1:35.

The Piantanidas (David, Lisa, and Bodie) took this shorter video with their Flip
complete with music and actual editing!

The always innovative Barcroft Playgroup, this time going Gaga.

There were cute little girls in bright helmets.

The Barcroft Circus had clowns, jugglers, tigers and horses.

The incomparable Barcroft Mulching Band returned this year!

Not that they are serious or anything, but our spy photo shows that they
have elaborate written routines communicated in secret on recycled paper.

Families lined the parade route to cheer the marchers on.

We had floats and colorful towing dads too!

Barcrofters are enjoying the 2010 soccer World Cup games.
