BSCL Minutes October, 1996 Meeting
Candidates Night, More on Demeter House
The monthly meeting of the Barcroft School and Civic League was
held on Thursday, October 3, 1996 at 7:30 p.m. at the Community
House.
Vice President David Michaelson presided over the meeting.
The minutes for the September meeting were read by recording
secretary Lisa Palance. One correction was made.
MOTION - to accept the September minutes as corrected. PASSED
New Business
Rocco Saracina updated the Demeter House situation. The County
Board will meet on October 5th at 8:30. The County staff has
recommended all of Vanguard proposals for Demeter House. Mitch
Dale has called other civic associations to ask for there support
in opposing Demeter House. They have called the County Board in
opposition.
There will be a Haunted House at the Community House on October
30th from 6-9 p.m. Volunteers are needed. Please contact Tom
Palance if you can help.
Karen Darner gave an explanation for the proposed constitutional
amendments that will be up for vote on November 5th. She also
said that there is further information posted in the libraries
and a voter guide will be in the newspaper.
Candidates Night
David Michaelson explained the forum for candidates night. Each
candidate will make a three minute statement. Questions will be
taken from Barcroft residents and the candidate will have a one
minute response.
Congressional candidates - Charles Stanard Severance, Sarina
Grosswald, Ward Edmonds, a representative for Jim Moran, and a
representative for John Otey.
Senate candidates - a representative for John Warner
Aaron Nissen spoke about the Park bond issue. It is for 12.9
million dollars for land purchases and improvements. The County
Board must approve all land purchases. He asked for support for
the bond.
School Board candidates - Libby Garvey, Ric Rocca, Frank Wilson
School bond - 29 million dollars. This is the fourth in a series
of bonds.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:25
