New Business
Four-way stop for intersection at 8th and S. Taylor Streets-has been approved by the County. This is a designated bike route with heavy pedestrian traffic as well. This initiative is separate from the traffic calming which is being explored for South Taylor Street. If BSCL approved, the four-way stop will be installed as part of the raised crosswalks on 6th and 9th Streets at Taylor.
Columbia Pike Streetcar Initiative-is being explored by the County in conjunction with Fairfax County. Would be an overhead wire and track underneath. Route would be from Pentagon City to Skyline Plaza. Fairfax County is considering an additional trolley route from Skyline Plaza to Tyson's. County has considered additional options, such as other types of buses. Streetcars are attractive, studies show greater likelihood to attract new public transportation riders, environmentally friendly (run on electricity). However, there would not be a lane dedicated for the streetcar; it would run in a normal lane of traffic.
Motion to pass resolution supporting County's exploration of financial viability of streetcar initiative for Columbia Pike: passed, 14 for, 2 against.
