Welcome and Committee Reports

• Membership Report--Forms for BSCL are due this month. See www.bscl.org for forms and dues, ($3/adult, $6/family). Extra contributions for community house restoration fund are always welcome.

• Treasurer's Report, Gary Lefebvre. Rentals of the Community House increased last month. However, renters are needed for the coming year. Email rentals@BSCL.org if you are interested in hosting events at the House.

Vote on Nomination of New Recording Secretary, Heidi Wicker-Passed.

New Business

• Discussion of what BSCL can do to assist Hurricane Katrina victims. President suggested posting comments or suggestions on how to help on the BSCL chat forum.

• Report of Eric Harold that gumbo fundraiser hosted at Community House raised over $1600 for preschool begun for hurricane victims. Those interested in donating, contact Eric Harold for more information: eric@BSCL.org.

• Thank you presentation to Scott Brinitzer, for his dedication to the Community House landscaping.

• Presentation by Elizabeth Rives, Arlington/Alexandria Tree Steward, titled RIGHT TREE, RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT NOW
  • Fall is best time for planting trees in our area. Considerations: where planting-shade or sun, full size of tree, whether native or possibly invasive species
  • Native tree and plant lists can be obtained from Virginia Extension Office. Ms. Rives' Power Point presentation available at www.bscl.org.
  • Those interested in becoming a Tree Steward, course to be offered Sept. 2006.

• School Board Candidates Question and Answer Session
