BSCL Memberships for 2005-2006
2005-2006 membership forms and fees ($3/adult, $6/family) due. Forms will be distributed in October newsletter, or can be found on the website at www.bscl.org. Extra contributions for community house restoration fund are welcome.
Reports/Announcements
Barcroft Players. August 20, 2005 performance of the Importance of Being Earnest well-attended. Anyone interested in participating in future Barcroft Players theater performances, contact Barbara Swart at barbara@bscl.org.
Civic Federation Report, Randy Swart. Arlington County currently considering zoning restrictions on oversized houses (i.e., "McMansions"). The BSCL delegation to the Civic Federation is representing BSCL as generally in favor of some kind of size restriction.
Treasurer's Report, Gary Lefebvre. Annual report distributed. Recent expenditures: tree removed from community house grounds.
2005 Arlington Neighborhood College. Arlington County invites neighbors interested in learning leadership strategies and how to work with the County to solve neighborhood concerns or issues to participate. Representatives from Barcroft are needed.
Program is one evening per week, September 19, 2005 - November 15, 2005. Contact Chikwe Njoku, Dept. of Community Planning, Housing and Development, 703-228-7472, cnjoke@arlingtonva.us to sign up.
Newsletter Report, Jim Kerr. Advertising in the newsletter is free for BSCL members. Business advertising brought in substantial revenue this year.

Presentations
Arlington County Park Enhancement Grant, Long Branch Nature Center.
Presentation by Lanny Graham. BSCL approved submission of a letter to the County supporting Ms. Graham's application for a grant to remove invasive species and plant native species in the Long Branch Nature Center area.
Note that this is through a County program whereby any person/group may apply to the County for grants, in the maximum of $12,000 for an enhancement project.
Tree Preservation. Presentation by Elizabeth Rives, Arlington County Tree Steward.
Discussion of important health benefits of tree canopy in Arlington, proper tree maintenance and care, tips for preserving the tree canopy.
Presentation to be posted on BSCL.org website.

- Participate in annual free Neighborhood Tree Giveaway by the County.
- Report tree protection violations (e.g., trees marked for protection at construction sites but not properly protected by circular fence).
