Subject: July Crime and Activity Report in District 3

From: "Michelle Nuneville"

To District 3: Hello to everyone and I hope you are having a safe and enjoyable summer.

During the month of July, there were three robberies that occurred in the Nauck community; one at the 2500 block of South Kenwood Street where a pizza delivery man was robbed of cash and a pizza by four black males on July 7th. One of the suspects is described as a black male, 5’8”, 160 pounds and was wearing a blue shirt and dark blue jeans. The second robbery took place on July 15th on South 25th Street; this case has been classified as “closed” by our Criminal Investigations Division detectives. The third robbery took place in the 2100 block of South Kenmore Street on July 29th, where two suspects were detained at the time of the robbery. No one was serious hurt in any of these incidents. And for the Nauck residents, the district team has been working with the schools and the county’s Parks and Recreation department in providing extra checks of the area below Drew Model School for activity. We will continue to monitor this location on a regular basis.

On July 21st, some teenage girls noticed a man watching them in Doctor’s Run Park. One of the teenagers called the police and the male left the area. He is described as being a black male, 5’7”, 140 to 150 pounds and wearing a dark green suit, black t-shirt and black shoes.

In the Barcroft area, there was a robbery on July 23rd of a man who was walking down the street. The man was approached by a white Hispanic male, 25 years old, 5’8” with a partial beard. He was wearing a blue and white striped short-sleeved shirt and black pants. The victim in this robbery had his money taken from him but was not hurt during the incident.

On July 25th, a resident reported seeing a suspicious man in Penrose Park. The police were able to track the man down and arrest him for various offenses. Thanks to the citizen that noticed something suspicious and called the police.

I have been getting emails concerning activity in the parks, especially after dark. Please remember that the park rules are that no one should be in the parks approximately one-half hour after sunset. If you see people in the park after dark, please call the police. I know that those who live near the parks are diligent about cleaning up after others who use the park. This is a reminder that there is to be no alcoholic beverages in the parks. If you see this type of activity occurring, please call the police.

I have been asked about the vendors located throughout the District and what has been done about them. The team has been aggressively monitoring the vendors throughout the district and some have been cited for various violations. I can assure you that most of the vendors that are regulars in the district are in compliance and we will continue to monitor them.

For those who have GPS devices in your vehicles, please be aware that they are a “hot” item to steal. If you have one in your vehicle, hide it or do something else with it so that it is not visible to someone who wants it. I have also been reading reports of vehicles being broken into and the DOORS ARE NOT LOCKED. Please keep your vehicle doors locked; don’t invite someone to break into your vehicle.

For the month of August thus far, we have had at least two robberies along the west end of Columbia Pike. We have also had two cases of a person “brandishing or showing” a gun to victims while inside a vehicle in the 3200 block and 3400 block of Columbia Pike. These two incidents occurred on August 8 and August 9; the August 8th incident described the vehicle as a silver Honda and the incident on August 9th involved a grey Ford sedan.

And as a last reminder, believe it or not, school will be starting soon so watch out for the children as they begin walking and riding busses. Have a safe and enjoyable rest of the summer.
