Welcome to Barcroft Neighborhood
3rd District Crime Report for March 2007Captain Michelle Nuneville, Commander of the 3rd Police District, provides this monthly report via email. You can request that your address be added to the list by emailing her at Mnuneville@arlingtonva.us, or read it on the Barcroft Chat List. From: Captain Michelle Nuneville Hello Everyone: Hello Everyone: Activity in District 3 continued to center along the west end of Columbia Pike. We had two robberies of persons during the first weekend in March; both involved female victims walking home in the late evening hours. It appears that in both cases, we may be looking for the same suspect. He is described as a light-skinned male, young, and in one robbery, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and baggy blue jeans. A robbery occurred at a business location in the 5000 block of Columbia Pike where a male walked behind the counter and took money out of the cash register. He is described as being a light-skinned black male or white Hispanic male, 35-40 years old, 6’0”, 145 pounds, and was wearing a baseball cap and black coat. The patrol officers have been making quite a few Drinking/Drunk in Public arrests in the area of the 4800/4900 blocks of Columbia Pike. The District Team has been patroling the bicycle paths as well as the parks. We have also seen a few hit and run accidents in the west end of Columbia Pike. The team and I were busy in March with community meetings and I enjoyed meeting each of you. We still continue to fight the ever increasing graffiti problem. Already in April, we have had approximately 17 reports of graffiti in various areas of District 3. While I cannot be certain, since this is Spring break week and most children are off from school, this may be the reason for the upswing in graffiti incidents. As the weather gets warmer and you start to venture outdoors, always be cautious of your surroundings. I can say that I see people walking on the bike paths and talking on cell phones. While I am a big proponent of carry a cell phone with you when you are out walking, be careful of talking on it and not paying attention to what is going on around you. We are still looking for the sexual assault suspect from the two incidents in Barcroft--the Barcroft Sports Complex area around Four Mile Run Drive--in January and February. There are flyers posted in various locations along Four Mile Run Drive. Please keep an eye out. I want to give a special thanks to the district team in their work activity in March. They were very busy proactively enforcing traffic violations, making criminal arrests and helping me with various community meetings. All of you should know how hard they work, not only in enforcement, but in various community issues that come to my attention. I would like to also recognize the evening officers who have made some great narcotics arrests in the District. Also, Officer Gammell stopped a vehicle in District 3 that was stolen out of Fairfax County. The suspects in this case may be linked to several larcenies from autos in Fairfax County. On a final note this month, I will be on leave beginning April 8th and will return back to the office on April 23rd. In my absence, Sergeant Marc Jenkins will be handling any District 3 concerns. He can be reached at 703-228-7461 or email at mjenkins@arlingtonva.us. Stay safe.
