Happy New Year:

I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season. The month of December in District 3 was very busy. We started off at the beginning of the month with a series of larcenies to vehicles; specifically in the Arlington Village area, the west end of Columbia Pike and the Fairlington area. Fairlington also experienced a series of vehicle thefts. Towards the end of December, it seemed to have quieted down with no reported incidents in any of these areas. This may have been as a result of an arrest made on Christmas Day. Detectives are still working on the arrest made.

The District saw an increase in robberies; specifically along the west end of Columbia Pike (Columbia Heights West). Most of the victims were robbed while walking on Columbia Pike or in the neighborhoods. There was one robbery in the 3000 block of Columbia Pike where the suspects are two Hispanic males. The District team as well as plain clothes officers have been concentrating their patrols along the Columbia Pike corridor and especially on the west end. Also, the District team spent a good deal of time riding the bike paths, especially along the bike path in the 4800 block of Columbia Pike. The team, along with operations officers, has made several arrests around Columbia Pike and South Four Mile Run Drive/ South Buchanan Street.

We are still looking for the male who has been showing sexual material from his laptop computer. These incidents have occurred in North Arlington. We have not had any additional reports in the last few weeks.

NOTE: On Thursday evening, January 11, 2007, a female was sexually assaulted in the 4200 block of South Four Mile Run Drive (service road). The suspect is described as an unknown race male, 40’s, medium weight and 5’5” in height. This incident occurred around 7:45pm. If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact the non-emergency number 703-558-2222.

Crime Tip: Be cautious in giving out personal information. It is easy to steal your identity. The best method of preventing this is to shred all of your mail; those credit card applications, blank checks that come with credit card statements and any other important information that you do not want anyone outside of your family to see. Stay safe.
