3rd District Crime Report for November 2006Captain Michelle Nuneville, Commander of the 3rd Police District, provides this monthly report via email. You can request that your address be added to the list by emailing her at Mnuneville@arlingtonva.us, or read it on the Barcroft Chat List. From: Captain Michelle Nuneville 15 December 2006 Hello Everyone: It is hard to believe that the holidays are approaching and we are ending another year. For the Third District, November was the beginning of a busy time. The District is seeing an increase of robberies, especially along the west end of Columbia Pike. Here is a synopsis of criminal activity that occurred during the month of November. On November 2nd, the United Bank located at the 2300 block of South 9th was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money. We are still looking for the suspect in this case. During the early part of November, approximately 16 vehicles had their driver’s mirrors damaged in the Douglas Park neighborhood. Since that time, I have not seen any additional reports of vehicles vandalized in this way in the Douglas Park neighborhood. For robberies, there was one on November 10th in the Forest Glen/Columbia Heights West neighborhood and there were two on November 19/20 in the Douglas Park area which may be related to a fight that had occurred during that evening. On November 24th, there was a robbery in the 4500 block of Columbia Pike and we are still looking for a suspect in this case. On November 27th, there was a robbery and shooting at a grocery store located at the 3200 block of Columbia Pike. One victim was shot and will survive his injury. Homicide/Robbery detectives along with the District 3 team have been working diligently on this case to find the suspect. I have nothing additional to report on this incident at this time. For the early part of December, we have noticed that vehicles are being stolen, and there was at least one recovery of a vehicle, in the Fairlington area. There have been a number of vehicles broken into in the Columbia Heights area within the last week. The method of entry has been by prying the driver’s window. Also since the beginning of December, the west end of Columbia Pike area has experienced at least four robberies. The descriptions of the suspects in these robberies vary from black males to Hispanic males and one Hispanic female. Members of the District 3 team and other department resources have been concentrating their efforts in this area in the hopes of catching someone. For those who live in this area, if you see something suspicious, please call the police. As I have said in a few community meetings that I recently attended, be aware of your surroundings. If you wake up in the middle of the night for some reason, look out your window and see what is going on. If something does not look right, give the police a call. Happy Holidays to everyone and have a safe New Year.
