Welcome to Barcroft Neighborhood
3rd District Crime Report for June 2006Captain Paul Larson, Commander of the 3rd Police District, provides this monthly report via email. You can request that your address be added to the list by emailing him at plarso@arlingtonva.us, or read it on the Barcroft Chat List.Subject: June Crime report
Everyone: I am forwarding to you the monthly crime statistics for June. As you may recall, the Fairlington neighborhood had a series of older model Jeep Cherokees being stolen. We arrested six juveniles a couple of weeks ago and it appears that series has stopped. It now appears that another group has started to steal older model Honda's along the Four Mile Run corridor and the west end of Columbia Pike. There were five (5) robberies in the district in June. They are spread out across the county and we believe are not related. Three of the robberies were people getting robbed and two were businesses. The Shell station at S. Four Mile Run Dr. and S. Walter Reed Dr. was robbed along with the 7-11 at Columbia Pike and S. Columbus St. Our Robbery detectives are actively working on all the cases. Over the past few weeks and into July, we have seen an increase of violent crimes throughout the county. We have had two shootings, one which ended in a homicide in Crystal City and another of a cab driver in Bluemont Park. Additionally, we stopped a gang related fight before it was started at Rt. 50 and Carlyn Springs Rd. on June 28th. Our Gang Unit was doing surveillance in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood, when a car drove past some suspect MS-13 members and yelled at them. The two gangs started to chase each other, but the fight was stopped by the detectives doing the surveillance. Each car was loaded down with clubs and baseball bats. As you know from my last community alert, we had a attack on the bike trail behind Barcroft Park. The victim was brutally beaten and raped. This type of case is very disturbing because it happened during daylight hours and of the brutality that the victim received. I can assure you that we are taking the appropriate steps to capture this person. There is very little information I can release, however, we are following up on many leads.
