Subject: Monthly Crime Statistics

It's that time again to send you the monthly crime statistics for September 2005. I am forwarding to you the Part 1 offenses with the actual number next to the offense for the month. The Part 1 offenses are assault (7), burglary (13), homicide (0), larceny (31), rape (2), robbery (2) and vehicle theft (17).

The two robberies are down from the previous month, but are still a concern. One robbery took place at S. 24th Rd and S. Glebe Rd. A person was walking down S. Glebe Rd. when he was approached by two males. They robbed him of cash. An arrest has not been made in this case. The second robbery occurred near the 7-11 at S. Columbus St. and Columbia Pike. The intoxicated individual was robbed of some beer by his drinking buddies. There was an arrest in this case.

The trend of burglaries that has occurred over the summer is hopefully gone with the change of season. Eleven of the 13 burglaries were committed by a suspect gaining entry through an open window. The other two were commercial establishments and in each case an arrest was made.

Our trend of cars being broken into and stolen continues. We were hit hard in Shirlington and the west end of Columbia Pike. We have addressed these areas with additional plain clothes officers and uniformed officers, but have not made much progress. On October 12th we made and arrest in our bait car when someone made the mistake of stealing it. He was quickly addressed in the 4100 block of S. Four Mile run Dr. Hopefully, we will be able to forensically tie him to numerous others in the Third District.

I am forwading a single map of the Part 1 offenses for September. I received several comments that the file was too big so I am attempting to edit the maps into one. If you have any questions please let me don't hestiate to contact me.
