Welcome to Barcroft Neighborhood
Barcroft School Book ExchangeDate: Thu, 3 Feb 2005 Subject: Barcroft's 2nd Annual Book exchange Hi All, The Barcroft Elementary School PTA is planning their 2nd annual children's book exchange. Last year we had hundreds of childrens' books brought in by the students, who were then able to take books at their current reading level. This year's exchange is planned for Mar. 2nd, Dr. Seuss's birthday. We all have books at home that our children no longer read, and this is a perfect avenue to get them in the hands of kids who will read them. The books we ran out of fastest last year were the ones for the upper-grade students. This is reasonable, since even the 5th graders were bringing in their out-grown younger books. We are especially looking for books that will fit the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade reading levels. However, we will accept any level childrens' books, and audio books as well, but no adult-level books. Here's where the community and middle school can help. If you have childrens' books that are in good condition that need a good home, please bring them to the Barcroft School office. We could use them as "seed" books for the beginning of our exchange. The children are not charged at all for these books. They get credit for the number of books they bring in, and are able to take out at least as many as they bring. Last year we were also able to give leftover books to the students who had not attended the event, as well as to the teachers for their classrooms. Nothing can be more satisfying than seeing the looks on the faces of these kids with their "new" books. Thank you for helping us keep reading exciting in the students' lives. If you have questions, please write to me at cahunter@erols.com. Barcroft School is located at 625 S. Wakefield St. in the Barcroft neighborhood. Their phone number is 703-228-5838. Thanks so much!
