Barcroft Community House Log

This is a log of things we have done recently to the Barcroft
Community House. To add something, email Randy Swart.

Most recent first:

  • July 31, 2006

Painted the stage black, using Behr Premium Plus Int Flat Wall Black (FD-3) with colorant added:

      B Lamp Black 12 0 0
      KX White 0 28 0
From Home Depot. (This was Consumer Report's top recommendation.) There is a jar of the leftover paint in the basement for touchups.
The same Behr flat paint in brilliant white flat would be fine for touching up the white walls.

  • 2007

Bruce Atkinson built two carts for our new chairs. The chairs are very comfy, but heavy and hard to set up and take down. The carts help a lot.

Gary Lefebvre began replacing our deteriorating particle board tables with lighter plastic ones. That continued through mid-2008.

  • June, 2008

Susan Tenenbaum and the church group that worships in the Community House now on Sundays painted the wainscotting with this paint and did a very nice job of eliminating the spots on the walls with a white primer that hid the shiny spots left by old tape remnants. The improvement in appearance is a delight--they really spruced the place up!

Following a Barcroft Players performance, the Swart's touched up the black paint on the stage with the super black formula paint noted above. They still have a little of it left. They also stained one of Bruce Atkinson's chair carts using Minwax Water Based Wood Stain Color-Rich Formula in English Oak. The scanning label on the quart can says 27426 61802 and on top there is SM5157000. They have firm intent to do the second cart real soon.

Randy replaced the broken exterior lights on the side and back of the Community House. The replacements have low-wattage compact fluorescents with automatic off and on. The brand is Lights of America, found at Home Depot. Rear bulb is a 27 watt. Both are 2700K color, much like an incandescent bulb, since that seemed more appropriate for the Community House than the 6500K ultra white bulbs that came with the rear fixture. The 2700K bulbs have to be ordered over the Internet.
