The teachers have identified about 80 students who must have individual help now to reach the NCLB levels. The school has recruited some Barcroft Buddies to help these students, but needs more volunteers.

Volunteer Barcroft Buddies agree to tutor a student for one hour a week before, during or after school hours, or on Saturdays. The staff has developed an easy-to-use curriculum so that you don't need special training, and your teaching skills will be more than adequate to help an at-risk student learn. Similar programs at other schools have proven that it works. Your help will enable a student to get up to speed and remove the barriers they are struggling to overcome. With your help at this stage they can be equipped to take full advantage of the wonderful learning opportunities that Barcroft Elementary offers, and learn on their own for a lifetime.

The School will hold information sessions this week on Wednesday, January 12 at 6:30pm and Thursday, January 13 at 2pm for anyone interested in volunteering or learning more about the effort. If you can't make either session please call the school at 703-228-5838 for info.
