Adaline Marye Robertson 1903-2006

The family obituary

Adaline Marye Robertson (age 103) of Alexandria, formally Barcroft (now Arlington), Virginia died of natural causes on August 9, 2006. She was born on July 20, 1903 to Sydney Thomas Marye and Annie Cole (Doremus) Marye. She was predeceased by her husband, Elvin Walter Robertson, and her two children, Lois Marye (Robertson) Raum and Noel Elvin Robertson, and her brother, Paul Doremus Marye. She is survived by her son's wife, Betty Sue Robertson, six grandchildren: Sherod Marye Arndt, Stephen Scott Raum, Randolph James Raum, Jan Suzette Hodges, Yvonne Ellen Harding and Curtis Noel Robertson, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews who all will miss her dearly. Adaline was a special person to all who knew her.

Adaline worked at the National Geographic Society in Washington, DC for 18 years and was a lifetime member. She also had a passion for genealogy and published a book with her cousin, Edith Eberhart, in 1985 titled, The Maryes of Virginia 1730-1985. This book was an act of devotion towards researching, compiling, and preparing for fourteen years to document her family history.

Adaline was a member of numerous societies including The Thomas Nelson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Huguenot Society of Virginia, Descendants of the Colonial Clergy, Arlington Historical Society; and a member of the Barcroft School and Civic League and Order of the Eastern Star, Unity Chapter 201.

A private family graveside service will occur on October 21 at 10 am at the Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church followed by a Memorial Service for friends and relatives at the Arlington Presbyterian Church at 11 am. A reception after the Memorial Service will be provided by the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice or the Arlington Presbyterian Church, 3507 Columbia Pike, Arlington, Virginia 22204.
